Slang of the Week – Prime Up

Prime Up: The process where by before hitting the clubs, you and your friends head off to a mate’s house and drink, or ‘prime up’, so that by the time you visit the local watering hole, you’re already buzzing for action.
Adrian: “Vacava, us gang go to O’Reillys tonight?”
Ema: “Fire! We go prime up first at Mesake’s house, get some drinks on.”
Slang of the Week – Saraga

Saraga (the ga is pronounced the same way as ng in sing): used to emphasis a situation or a description of something.
Alvin: Man did you see the new James Bond movie? It was set saraga! Plenty of explosions, girls, and fast cars!
Slang of the Week – Tubelight

Tubelight: To be slow on the uptake; Usually the last person to not get the joke; Refers to the way a tubelight gets switched on, by flickering a few times before powering up.

Slang of the Week – Trues Up

Trues Up: admit amazement at fact stated; Similiar to “O Rly?” minus the sarcasm.
Also used in the abbreviated form of “Se’rup!“
Frank: Hey, guess what? Obama is the next US President!
Sam: Trues up!
Slang of the Week – Leva

Leva: To feel ill will or to hold a grudge against someone, specifically after an arguement; refusal to meet later and clear up disagreement;
Mark: Listen, I’m sorry I screwed your sister ok? I didn’t know!

Mark: Hey come on boy, I said I’m sorry. Don’t leva aye?
Note: Ironically, Leva is used by Latino Gang Members throughout the US to describe gang members who turn their backs on their original group and join another group/gang. Plenty opportunity there to play out the fijian version of ‘Leva’…
