Bottled Water has over the years gained flack over a range of issues ranging from the marginal difference bottle water is from normal tap water, to the fact that the ecological footprint of every bottled water is more damaging then the so called health benefits it brings. Whatever that means.
So someone is trying to start a meme on Flickr denouncing the evil ways of the bottled water empire and its many subjects, this one being the infamous Fiji Water (with new export only packaging!). The hater on Flickr rants:
“Everything is wrong about this. The message that is it “green in every drop” when it has to be flown halfway around the world, the company will chase you down for saying anything against them, and while the company makes money, most of the island lives in poverty.”
‘…most of the island lives in poverty”? Surely Fiji isn’t as bad as everyone overseas thinks. Just because we don’t have HBO doesn’t mean we’re living in the doldrums. Granted Fiji does have its fair share of poverty, but what country doesn’t? And I don’t necessarily think that some bottled water company named after its host country is going to wave its magic wand and just…make it all disappear.
What do you think?

I don’t know who this guy is….but we don’t live in poverty….we live in bliss….partly because ignorance is bliss!hahahaha but you are right…it isn’t as bad as everyone makes it out to be (I can’t say this with as much authority at the moment since I am not in Fiji) but I think Fiji is a rich country compared to other island nations and you’re right KK every country has a shanti town, ghetto or “the projects”…even here in New Zealand…I think I live in it.
I don’t blame anyone but the people who thirst for the damn water!wouldn’t the world be a better, greener place if everyone just drank tap water?
That said…I love Fiji water!!
but can’t afford to buy it

I think the guy just wants something to rant about, & all the real ones were taken.
I rekon Fiji water has done more good than harm… but it’s a bit overated.
Besides… I have Fiji water on tap thanks to PWD

Hi Wilson,
Thanks for your post and being open-minded about FIJI Water. We try to help the socio-economic development of Fiji as much as we can by running a company that provides much-needed jobs, health care, education, and clean drinking water to the people who live in the villages surrounding our factory and the greater community of Fiji.
In addition, the FIJI Water Foundation is one of the largest philanthropic organizations in Fiji and has funded projects throughout the country, including building new schools, implementing recycling programs, developing reforestation projects, and teaming with the Red Cross to provide safety instruction.
You can see a map of the projects we’ve participated in and our current projects on the FIJI Water Foundation site: http://www.fijiwaterfoundation.org/ and also read the latest news on our blog: http://blog.fijigreen.com
Again, thank you for being so open on your blog. We encourage you and your readers to contact us at bula@fijiwater.com if you have any questions.
Sincerely,
The Team at FIJI Water

Jeez what a sleazy piece of journalism.. It just goes to show, fashionably eco-conscious retards will fall for anything… “Chinese bottles”, yeah like chinese apple computers and chinese gameboys, isn’t almost everything we use manufactured in china?

Hmmm…interesting that everyone is hating on Fiji Water. I think they are doing their best to help our economy which is not in the best state at the moment. Well done for just stating the facts as someone who lives in Fiji…we know how it is there if we are living there and plain and simple…poverty may actually be making Fijians much happier than developed countries, true not to say we are all impoverished….poor but happy so they say
