Get yo Water Connexion on. Servants not included.

Originally this was going to be a post about “haha mistyped that word!” and all that. However, what it actually turned out to be was me getting schooled.

Below is an application form for water….“connexion”

Yes, thats right. Connexion. Rather sounds like a fancy drink, or a french swear, take your pick. I actually thought that connexion was just some typo, but then upon closer inspection, the fancy drink/french swear word is actually used repeatedly.

Drunk typist? I think not. So after a bit of research (thank god I actually bothered to research that…or I’d never hear the end of it from you all…) I came across the actual definition of said word in Wikipedia:

“is the original variant spelling of “connection“, common until at least the 18th century, and still used in Britain well into the 20th century. (The Oxford English Dictionary lists it as an acceptable spelling to this day.)”

Great. As it stands, Fiji is still locked up in the dark ol’ days of colonialism. “Poppycock!” You say. Don’t believe me? Towards the bottom of the application form reads the following sentence:

Hmmm. ‘Servants’ sounds like such a dirty word post-Abraham Lincoln. And yet this form is pretty much what you’ll get should you wish to apply for a water…connexion.

Already I feel the need to drink a spot o’ tea…
