Vote for Our New Mayor…in New Zealand?

Browsing today’s Fiji times paper will get you this ad:

Bear in mind I said “Fiji Times”. Not “new zealand newpaper from the library”. Not “scan from the auckland paper sent to me from my cuz there”. But “Fiji Times”.

Could someone please explain to me the logic behind this ad? Am I missing something here?

All I see is an advert about what this guy Alex Swney (how the hell do you pronounce that anyway?) would do if he were mayor.

Of Auckland.

The city of Sails.

That isn’t in Fiji.

Update:

Out of curiosity I decided to email them and ask them directly. Here’s a transcription of the email exchange.

Hi,

Just saw your advert for Alex Swney in the local Fiji Times here in Fiji.

I’m curious as to how Fiji could help with the vote standings for your campaign in New Zealand.

Cheers

Hello Wilson – thanks for your email. It was just an idea to remind all the Aucklanders who are currently holidaying in lovely Fiji to vote when they get home!

Kind regards
