Historic Streak for Fiji at 2007 Rugby World Cup
During Fiji’s first pool match against Japan, in Toulouse, France. Our nation i.e. Fiji, was bestowed with the unique honour of having the first streaker at the 2007 Rugby World Cup.
The funny thing here, is that the streaker was an Irish lad. I’m still trying to equate how and what the f**k was he doing at the Fiji and Japan game, with that Irish flag.
One cannot help but laugh and admire the sheer determination and vigor of these streakers. Yes, I said “streakers”, i.e. more than one, plural.
For the Fiji vs Australia match, in Montpellier, France. Rugby fans were not only going to witness the Wallabies continue their winning streak, they were going to witness a different streak altogether.
With 10 minutes till the end of the match, a Sebastian Chabal (a.k.a. “The Caveman”) fan ran on to the field, to draw the loudest cheers from the spectators, and viewers worldwide.
In case you’re wondering, there was an incident during the Fiji vs Wales match, but the pitch invader was fully clothed. Awwwww
Unfortunately or fortunately, depending on your view on streaking, measures have been taken in New Zealand to crack down on this before the 2011 Rugby World Cup that will be hosted there.
For Your Information, this legislation was passed in August before the events at the 2007 Rugby World Cup took place.
In the meantime, keep your eyes peeled for any streakers during Fiji’s quarterfinal match against South Africa (October 8th, 2007).
